Introduce the purification, models, and uses of white oil

       White oil generally refers to mineral oil, a mixture of refined liquid hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum. Colorless and semi transparent liquid component, odorless when cold, with a slight petroleum odor when heated, does not settle in water, ethanol, soluble in volatile oils, miscible in most non-volatile oils, stable to light, heat, acid, etc. It can float on the surface of water and affect the exchange of oxygen at the interface between air and water. It can also be dispersed in water, adsorbed on suspended particles, or exist in an emulsified state in water. Oil can be oxidized and decomposed by microorganisms in water, consuming dissolved oxygen in water and deteriorating water quality. It can be used to manufacture laundry detergent, synthetic detergent, synthetic petroleum protein, pesticide emulsifier, and used as a film breaker in the food industry.
White oil is a light lubricating oil fraction extracted from crude oil at temperatures ranging from 250 to 400 ℃, which is processed through acid-base refining, water washing, drying, clay adsorption, and the addition of antioxidants. When using paraffin based crude oil, dewaxing should also be carried out. To lower the freezing point of crude oil, an appropriate amount of pour point depressant can be added.
       By taking different fractions of crude oil and controlling the concentration, dosage, action time, and other related processes of sulfuric acid in refining, transformer oil, capacitor oil, cable oil, switch oil, etc. with different uses can be obtained. Solvent refining or a combination of solvent refining and hydrogenation refining can also be used instead of acid-base refining. Mineral oil should be refined to an appropriate depth.
Insufficient refining cannot remove harmful impurities from the oil; However, excessive refining will remove too much natural antioxidant and aromatic hydrocarbon components from the oil, reducing its stability and absorbency, which is particularly affecting cable oil and capacitor oil. In order to improve its arc extinguishing ability, the content of aromatic hydrocarbons in the oil should be minimized as much as possible.
1、 White oil is highly favored by users due to its wide range of applications. There are various types and specifications of white oil, mainly due to different purification technologies. The refining process of white oil generally includes three methods: hydrogenation, olefin polymerization, and solvent extraction.
1. Hydrogenation method:
The hydrogenation method for producing white oil was developed in the 1970s to overcome problems such as acid residue pollution caused by sulfonation. This method achieved a slag free process for white oil production and expanded the source of raw materials. The hydrogenation process usually consists of 2-3 stages of hydrogenation units with different pressures. The section is the hydrogenation refining of raw materials, during which the sulfur, nitrogen, and aromatic hydrocarbon content in the raw materials can be significantly reduced. 2、 The third stage is the deep hydrogenation saturation of aromatic hydrocarbons. During this hydrogenation process, the aromatic hydrocarbon content in the raw materials can meet the quality requirements of pharmaceutical and food white oil. The hydrogenation method produces white oil with a higher yield than the iodination method, ranging from approximately 85% (m) to 89% (m).
2. Olefin polymerization method:
Branched chain alkane oil (also known as synthetic white oil) synthesized from alpha olefins can be used as a high-quality food lubricant. Synthetic white oil does not contain cyclic hydrocarbons or straight chain molecules, and its viscosity index, flash point, ignition point, pour point, evaporation loss and other properties are better than ordinary petroleum based white oil. Its application range is much wider than that of ordinary mineral oil. At low temperatures, the flowability and lubricity of synthetic white oil are relatively good, and at high temperatures, it has a good ability to maintain viscosity. In addition, synthetic white oil has a lower degree of evaporation at high temperatures, resulting in less evaporation loss and lower flammability.
3. Solvent extraction method:
Extraction method for producing white oil is a new method proposed in the 1980s, which has the advantages of simple equipment, low pollution, and simple process flow. This method has high requirements for raw materials in the production of white oil, usually using neutral oil as raw material. Dilute the raw materials with hexane oil during production, add 5% water, and use N, N-dimethylformamide as the solvent for segmented extraction at room temperature. After four stages of extraction, the ideal crude white oil can be obtained, which is then refined by adding white clay.
2、 After extracting white oil, its parameters can be tested from the following aspects to distinguish different grades.
1. Appearance (chromaticity) of white oil - The determination of white oil color is generally carried out using the "Method for Determining the Color of Petroleum Products" GB/T 6540-1986 (1991). This experiment involves injecting a sample into a sample container and comparing it with glass discs arranged from 0.5-8.0 values using a standard light source, using equal color codes as the color codes for the white oil sample. If the exact matching color number cannot be found and falls between two standard colors, report the darker of the two colors. The larger the value, the darker the color of the white oil and the less it meets the requirements for white oil standards.
2. White oil viscosity and viscosity index. --Measure using a low shear capillary viscometer. The kinematic viscosity of white oil is determined using the method specified in GB/T265-1988. The measurement step is to measure the time for a fixed volume of liquid to flow through a calibrated glass capillary viscometer under gravity at a constant temperature. The product of the capillary constant of the viscometer and the flow time is the white oil kinematic viscosity of the measured liquid at that temperature. Industrial white oil, cosmetic white oil, and other white oils are generally measured for their kinematic viscosity at 40 ° C, while internal combustion engine oil and vehicle gear oil are measured for their kinematic viscosity at 100 ° C.
There are many types of white oil models with a wide range of uses. The commonly used models include No.3, No.5, No.7, No.10, No.22, No.32, No.46, No.68, and No.100 white oil. Different models are divided into industrial grade, cosmetic grade, food grade, medical grade, paraffin based, cyclic alkyl, hydrogenated anti yellowing and other grades. The application scope of different models and categories is also different. Below is a detailed introduction to the uses of various white oils.
Industrial grade white oil No. 3- strong solubility and good volatility. -The saturated hydrocarbon content is greater than 99%, the product has good stability, low sulfur, low aromatic, non-toxic, odorless, and narrow fractions. Suitable for use as a solvent for silicone glass adhesive, sealant, plasticizer, PVC viscosity reducer, spinning oil and other industries; It can be used as a diluent for insecticides, ink solvent oil base oil, special cutting oil base oil, aluminum rolling base oil, etc., to lubricate, remove oil, and prevent rust; Can be used as a wetting agent, solvent, viscosity reducer, lubricant, etc. in industries such as synthetic resin and plastic processing.
No. 5 industrial grade white oil - mainly used as a lubricant, solvent, and coolant in chemical fiber textiles, which can make fibers and fabrics soft and shiny; Can be used as a wetting agent and lubricant in the synthetic resin and plastic processing industries; Suitable as a lubricant for textile machinery, precision instruments, compressor sealing oil, and can also be used as a colorant, ink dilution oil, and other purposes.
No.7 white oil - stable, minimally affected by other physical and chemical factors, does not denature, therefore easily mixed with other substances to form a stable mixture; At the same time, it will not affect other functional ingredients. It has a good skin feel, waterproof and durable, so it is often added to lipstick, foundation make-up and waterproof sunscreen products. There are several levels including industrial grade, cosmetic grade, and food grade.
Industrial grade white oil is suitable for use in industries such as synthetic fibers, as a lubricant, solvent, and coolant in textiles. It can make fibers and fabrics soft and shiny, and can also be used as a wetting agent, solvent, and lubricant in industries such as synthetic resins and plastic processing;
Cosmetic white oil is suitable for making cosmetics industrial raw materials, hair cream, hair oil, lipstick, skin care grease, etc;
Food grade white oil is suitable for food polishing, anti sticking, defoaming, sealing, polishing, and food machinery, extending the storage period of wine, vinegar, fruits, vegetables, or canned goods, as well as serving as a base oil for lubricating laxatives, ointments, and pharmaceuticals, a release agent for tablets and pills, and anti-corrosion lubrication for surgical instruments and pharmaceutical machinery.
Application scope of No. 10 industrial grade white oil: suitable for plasticizing and oil filling of general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) and high impact polystyrene (HIPS); Used in the production processes of PE, PS, PU, etc; Suitable for the field of chemical fiber textiles, it is used as a lubricant, solvent, and coolant during textile production, which can make fibers and fabrics soft and shiny.
No.11 White Oil - Food grade white oil is suitable for food polishing, anti sticking, defoaming, sealing, polishing, and food machinery, extending the storage period of wine, vinegar, fruits, vegetables, or canned goods, as well as being used as a base oil for lubricating laxatives, ointments, and pharmaceuticals, a release agent for tablets and pills, and anti-corrosion lubrication for surgical instruments and pharmaceutical machinery.
No.15 white oil - no fluorescence, no impurities, no water soluble acid or alkali, colorless and odorless. It is obtained from the base oil produced by hydrocracking as raw material, and processed by deep dewaxing, chemical refining and other processes. It can be used in chemistry, textile, synthetic fiber, petrochemical, power, agriculture, etc., and can be used in the production of PE, PS, PU and other products.
No. 18 white oil -- no fluorescence, no impurities, no water soluble acid or alkali, no color and no taste. Cosmetic white oil is suitable for making cosmetics industrial raw materials, hair cream, lipstick, skin care grease, etc;
No.24 White Oil - No fluorescence, no impurities, no water soluble acid or alkali, colorless and odorless. It is obtained from mineral oil as the base oil, processed by deep chemical refining, edible alcohol extraction and other processes. Suitable for lubrication of processing equipment in the food industry, such as grain and oil processing, fruit and vegetable processing, dairy product processing, bread cutting machines, etc. It is used for food polishing, anti sticking, defoaming, planing, sealing, and can be used as a mold release agent for foods such as pasta, bread, biscuits, chocolate, etc. It can extend the storage and freshness period of wine, vinegar, fruits, vegetables, and canned food.
No. 48 white oil - no fluorescence, no impurities, anhydrous soluble acid or alkali, colorless and odorless, suitable for the pharmaceutical industry, can be used as an oral agent for the production of mild diarrhea and a defoamer for the production of penicillin.
Application scope of white oil No. 32, No. 46, No. 68, and No. 100: thermoplastic elastomers, plastic track particles, TPE, TPR particle extrusion; Processing of various rubber products such as ethylene propylene rubber, butyl rubber, natural rubber, and sealing strips; Petroleum additive blending, pesticide and fertilizer production in the chemical industry.
Application range of hydrogenated anti yellowing base white oil: various transparent materials, colored products, rubber and plastic products with strict color requirements.
The application scope of medical grade white oil includes medical operation auxiliary supplies, drug packaging paper processing, intestinal lubrication, and other functions.
Cosmetic grade white oil is mainly used in the production of skincare and hair care products, such as moisturizing oil, sunscreen, sunscreen, snowflake cream, cold cream, hair lotion, hair wax, hair oil, shaving cream, hand washing, bath liquid, baby body oil, hair care agent, toothpaste, etc. White oil, as an oily substance in basic cosmetics, forms an oil film on the skin. In addition to providing a smooth feeling, it can also block the evaporation of skin moisture due to its barrier effect, providing moisturizing agents to maintain skin moisture. The amount of white oil used in cream products is generally between 2% and 12%, while the amount used in sunscreen, head oil and other products is relatively high, reaching about 80%.
Industrial grade white oil is mainly used as a lubricant for polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane, polystyrene, and high-pressure compressors, as a filler for synthetic rubber, as a plasticizer and lubricant for polyvinyl chloride, as a carrier for catalysts, as a dispersant for dyes and intermediates, as a sealing oil, diluent, and heat carrier for chemical reaction vessels.
Food grade white oil is used as a defoamer in food packaging paper and sugar production, a moisture-proof agent in pellet food production, food processing oil such as bread baking oil and dough mixing machine oil, a preservative for fruits, vegetables, eggs, and other coatings, a surface coating for hot foods, food coloring agents, release agents and anti sticking agents for bread, candy, macaroni, chocolate processing, raisin detergent, lubricating oil for food packaging, beer and beverage processing machinery, and stamping oil for bottle cap production.
