1. Fluorinated polymers have universal chemical compatibility
Almost all fluoropolymers have amazing resistance to acids, solvents, and bases, which means they can remain in contact with other substances without any detectable chemical reactions. This makes them materials for applications that require anti-corrosion protection.
2. Fluorinated polymers have good heat resistance
Compared to other polymers, fluorinated polymers have been found to be highly effective at high temperatures. Typically, fluoropolymers can maintain proficiency at temperatures up to 260 degrees Celsius and have an oxygen index of at least 95% (LOI), making them non flammable. They have excellent resistance to long-term thermal degradation. 4. Fluorinated polymers provide excellent weather resistance
Fluorinated polymers have excellent properties required for outdoor structures such as solar panels, satellite/radar antennas, and greenhouses. They do not absorb water, do not expand, and are not affected by ultraviolet radiation. Fluoropolymer ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) is used for the construction of biological communities in the Eden project. This material has been selected due to its strength but lightweight, non stick properties, important UV transmittance, and self-cleaning properties, and is fully expected to be used for over 25 years. The environmental stability characteristics of fluorinated polymers are also reflected in heavier structural components, and their low friction and non stick properties mean that they do not require oil or grease.
5. Fluorinated polymers are effective electrical insulators
Some fluorinated polymers, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, are non-conductive or non absorbent. Automotive and aerospace design engineers, as well as electronic and electrical engineers, utilize the advantages of fluorinated polymers to design products such as cable systems.
